3/28/2025 - 20 Years Dedicated to Caring for Others

I may not have biological children, but I’m a father to four amazing kids. I’m fighting for my niece and nephews, for the families I serve, and for every single person who’s ever fallen through the cracks.

For the past 20 years, I’ve dedicated my life to caring for others. I love them all—and I live my experience every single day. Every story, every struggle, every success has shaped the advocate and leader I am today.

I lead an agency that supports some of our most vulnerable populations, and with over 10 years of experience under DBHDS, I’ve been in the trenches, fighting to make systems more compassionate, inclusive, and effective.

This isn’t just a campaign—it’s a calling.

District 75 deserves leadership rooted in love, lived experience, and the courage to fight for everyone.

3/21/2025 - Not Running for Power or Prestige

Running for office to represent the community that raised me is one of the greatest honors of my life. Today, I saw my very first campaign sign—and it’s right across the street from the hospital where I was born. Born to a pair of teen parents who had the choice.

Today, we celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Dr. William Ferguson Reid, a trailblazer, civil rights leader, and the first Black person elected to the Virginia General Assembly in the 20th century. His unwavering dedication to justice, democracy, and voting rights has paved the way for so many of us.

Dr. Reid, your wisdom, resilience, and leadership continue to inspire generations. I am deeply grateful for your wise words and the path you have carved for all who believe in equity, fairness, and the power of civic engagement.

I’m the ONLY candidate in HD 75 with both a nursing license and a mental health intervention license—and I’ve been practicing under DBHDS for over 9 years.

When I say I’ve worked in healthcare, I mean hands-on experience in every setting:

  • Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU

  • Leading my own healthcare agency

I’ve worked directly with individuals facing mental health crises, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and complex medical needs.

I know what works, what doesn’t, and how we can do better.

Healthcare and mental health reform aren’t just talking points for me—they’re my life’s work.

For the past 10 years, I have dedicated my life to serving Chesterfield County’s most vulnerable—advocating, supporting, and ensuring that everyone has a voice.

Through loss, challenges, and even fire, we have stood tall and proud, never wavering in our commitment to those who need us most.

I am proud of the work we’ve done. I am proud of the lives we’ve impacted. And I will continue to stand proud—for our community, for our people, and for the future we are building together.

3/6/2025 -  Knowing Where We Belong

Knowing Where We Belong

One of the greatest acts of self-respect is knowing when we are truly welcome—and when we are merely tolerated. Tolerating my culture isn’t cool. Respect, inclusion, and equality should be the standard, not a reluctant afterthought.

My husband and I will not be involved with community agencies that participate in homophobic behavior behind the scenes. We are fully aware of where we belong and can take a hint. Good luck and farewell.

We do not beg for seats at tables where our value is questioned. We do not force ourselves into spaces that see us as lesser. We build. We uplift. We cultivate community where equality is the foundation, not an empty gesture.

If a space does not recognize our worth, it is not a space for us. We stand with those who see us as equals, who respect our presence, and who celebrate our contributions. Because we are not here to prove ourselves—we are here to thrive.

3/5/2025 -  Words Of My Enemy

I Will Not Remember the Words of My Enemy, But the Silence of My Friends

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." These words were powerful then, and they are just as relevant today.

We are living in a time when rights are being challenged, communities are under attack, and voices are being silenced. Whether it's racial injustice, LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare access, or education equity, we see the same struggles Dr. King fought against still playing out in our society.

Silence in the face of injustice is complicity. It is not enough to privately support change—we must speak out, act, and stand with those who are fighting for what is right. If we truly believe in justice, equity, and humanity, we must raise our voices—not just when it's easy, but when it truly matters.

To those who stand on the sidelines, hoping things will change on their own: history does not remember the passive. It remembers those who stood firm in their convictions, even when it was unpopular or inconvenient.

Let’s choose to be on the right side of history. Let’s speak, act, and fight for what is just—together. Because the silence of today becomes the regret of tomorrow.

3/4/2025 -  Being Bullied Is Exhausting

Being Bullied is Exhausting.

The constant whispers, the backroom deals, the intimidation tactics, the pressure to conform—it takes a toll. Fighting just to be seen, to be heard, to have a fair chance shouldn’t be part of running for office, yet here we are.

As a gay man, as someone who refuses to be silenced, as a fighter for real representation, I have faced harassment, threats, and exclusion—not because I’m unqualified, not because I can’t win, but because I challenge the status quo.

And let’s be honest: It’s exhausting.

But here’s the thing—I’m still here. Still standing. Still fighting. Because I know I’m not alone. Because I know so many others have been pushed aside, told to wait their turn, forced into silence—and I refuse to accept that as the way things have to be.

Bullies want exhaustion to lead to surrender. They want us to give up, to step aside, to let them decide for us. But I won’t. We won’t.

We deserve better. We deserve fairness, transparency, and a party that actually stands for what it preaches. So no matter how exhausting this fight gets, I will keep going—for myself, for my community, for everyone who has ever been told they don’t belong.

Because we do belong. And we’re not backing down.

I am proud to stand with Richmond in this fight. If elected to House District 75, I will work tirelessly to uphold these values and ensure that Virginia remains a place where love, dignity, and equality are not up for debate.

3/4/2025 -  Voice For Women

Standing in Monroe Park, surrounded by voices united for women’s reproductive health autonomy, I felt an overwhelming sense of empowerment and purpose as I shared my mother’s story. Her journey was one of resilience, sacrifice, and survival, shaped by a system that too often fails women—especially young mothers, women of color, and those without resources.

My mother became a teen mom at 15, navigating a world that offered judgment instead of support, and barriers instead of options. She fought for her family, endured domestic violence, and carried burdens no one should have to bear alone. Yet, through all of it, she remained a beacon of strength and love—a force that shaped who I am today.

As I stood before the crowd, I felt her presence with me. I spoke not just for her but for every woman who has been denied autonomy over her body, every girl who has been told she has no choice, and every person who has been silenced by oppression.

Reproductive freedom is not just a political issue—it’s a human right. It is about ensuring that no woman is forced into motherhood against her will, that healthcare decisions remain between patients and doctors, and that future generations are not shackled by the same systemic barriers that my mother faced.

Telling her story in Monroe Park was more than just honoring her memory—it was a call to action. It was a reminder that our voices matter, our stories matter, and our fight is far from over. My mother’s legacy, and the legacy of so many women like her, demands that we continue to stand, speak, and fight for a future where every woman has the right to make choices about her own body.

This fight is personal. And we will not be silent.

3/3/2025 -  Deep Roots, Real Leadership

Deep Roots, Real Leadership – A Strong Voice for Virginia

I am the only Democrat in this race who was born and raised right here in House District 75. My roots run deep—planted in the banks of the Appomattox River in Hopewell, where my family's story and struggles shaped the person I am today.

My mother was just a child herself when she brought me into this world, and my father, a teenage father, was still finding his way. My family, like so many in this district, knew hardship, but we endured. We worked hard. We fought for better. And now, I am fighting for you.

 

I am not a "come-here" candidate—I am a Virginian through and through. I have lived the history of this district, and I’ve been a part of the struggles, victories, and progress of Hopewell, Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and the Tri-Cities. I understand our community because it is my home, my heart, and my history.

I am the homegrown candidate, and I’m ready to serve. I’m ready to fight for our schools, our healthcare, our workers, and our future. I’m not just asking for your vote—I’m asking for the chance to bring real change to the place we all call home.

2/28/2025 -  I Stand With Ukraine

I stand with Ukraine, European nations, and our northern friends in Canada. In these trying times, we are witnessing an alarming takeover of our federal government, and the display of aggression in the People’s House is completely unacceptable. Our democracy is built on the principles of debate, governance, and the will of the people—not force and intimidation. Now, more than ever, we must remain vigilant, united, and committed to protecting the freedoms and values that define us as a nation. I will always stand on the side of democracy, justice, and the people. 

2/26/2025 -  I Woke Up Determined - Ready to Fight

This morning, I woke up with a fire in my heart. I am angry. I am determined. And I am ready to fight.

They are coming for my rights. They are coming for my marriage. And now, they are coming for the special people my husband and I call our family—the most vulnerable among us.

With $880 billion in proposed Medicaid cuts, Republicans are targeting the very people who rely on these services to survive. Individuals with disabilities, seniors, low-income families, and those who need home and community-based services—all are at risk. This is not just bad policy; it’s a deliberate attack on human dignity.

This is not the America we want. This is not the America we fought for.

We must funnel this anger into action. We cannot sit back while they strip away healthcare, support, and protections for the people who need it most. We cannot let them erase our families, our marriages, or our future.

What We Must Do:

Stay loud. Call, email, and show up for our most vulnerable.

Organize. I am calling on small providers, caregivers, and advocates to join me in an upcoming town hall.

Vote. Electing Democrats up and down the ballot is the only way to stop these attacks.

I refuse to let our country be dragged backward. I refuse to let extremists decide who deserves care and who does not. I am fighting for my family, my community, and for every Virginian who believes in fairness, dignity, and justice.

2/24/2025 -  Determination, Excellence, and Defying Obstacles

When the road is long and the challenges are many, determination and excellence are what bring us through. For over 15 years, I have dedicated my life to direct care, standing beside those who needed me most—at their worst, in their toughest moments. I have held the hands of those in transition, guiding them with compassion as they journey from this world to the next, ensuring they are never alone in their final moments.

Many have come forward, and many have taken a seat. But I have remained steadfast, unwavering in my commitment to serve. My worth is not in words but in action, in the undying dedication I have shown to those I serve. Through every obstacle, every late night, and every moment of advocacy, I have proven that resilience and hard work carve the path forward.

I am a nurse—first and foremost. Nothing will ever change that. It is who I am at my core, the foundation of my purpose, and the driving force behind everything I do.

People who use hate to divide will not rock me—my roots are deep. I stand firm in my values, in my commitment to care, and in my unwavering belief that love and service will always prevail over fear and division.

 

And my family, as unique as it is, may not be familiar to some, but we belong. Love is what makes a family—not conformity, not expectations, not outdated definitions. We stand together, proud and unshaken, because love is all there is.

Excellence isn’t just a goal—it’s the standard I hold myself to every day. No challenge, no opposition, no barrier can overshadow the impact of real, hands-on care. That is the foundation of everything I stand for.

 

We push forward, we rise above, and we serve with integrity—because that is how true change happens.

2/15/2025 -  A Nurse First, Always

Stepping into the political arena is new for me. I’m not always polished, and I never will be. I’m not a career politician—I’m a nurse, a caregiver, and an advocate. My work has always been about people, not power.

In nursing, we don’t ask who you voted for before we care for you. We don’t judge you based on your beliefs, your background, or your circumstances. We show up, we listen, we help, and we fight for what’s right—because that’s what real service looks like.

That’s the same energy I’m bringing into this space. Politics shouldn’t be about ego or party lines—it should be about people. It should be about making sure families have access to quality healthcare, that communities feel safe and supported, and that every individual has the dignity and respect they deserve.

I’m not here to fit into an old model of politics—I’m here to redefine it. I’m here to put people first, the same way I always have. And I will always be a nurse and a caregiver before anything else.

2/11/2025 -  Nurses Showed Up

When the pandemic swept across our nation, it brought fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak. Communities were gripped by the unknown, and many didn’t know where to turn. But one thing was certain—nurses showed up.

When others hesitated, nurses answered the call. We stood on the front lines, shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues, hand in hand with our patients, often without enough resources, battling a virus we didn’t fully understand. We worked long hours, sometimes holding the hands of patients who had no family by their side. We comforted the grieving, advocated for those in need, and carried the weight of it all, even when it felt overwhelming.

In those dark and unsure times, nurses didn’t back down. We showed up for our communities because that’s what we do. We lead with compassion, strength, and resilience—even when it feels like the world is falling apart.

 

​Nurses bring a unique sense of power and reliance. We are problem solvers who don’t shy away from tough decisions. We bring calm to chaos, strength to uncertainty, and hope to despair. Nurses don’t just answer the call—we lead. We know how to build trust, take action under pressure, and fight for what’s right.

 

​Nurses can lead too, and as your delegate for HD 75, I’ll bring that same spirit of leadership to Richmond. Shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand, we will progress together, creating a future where healthcare is accessible, families are supported, and our communities are stronger than ever.

 

When times are tough, you can count on a nurse to step up. That’s the leadership we need.

2/05/2025 -  Standing Together

Today was powerful. Not just because we stood in solidarity, fighting for the rights of those I hold close to my heart, but because we stood together—stronger than ever. Seeing the people I serve express themselves freely, without fear or judgment, brought tears of joy to my eyes.

What made today even more meaningful was having two of the longest-standing friends in my life—friends since middle school—standing brave in this ever-changing world, fighting for us all. And by my side, the love of my life, unwavering in his support.

We weren’t just standing there for ourselves—we were fighting for our right to exist as any other married family, fighting for those who matter to us most: our family.

Our voices matter. Our love matters. Our existence matters. And we will continue to fight for justice, for equality, and for the freedom to be who we are without compromise.

Black History Month is a time to recognize the resilience, brilliance, and contributions of Black individuals who have shaped history and continue to impact our world today. From groundbreaking leaders and innovators to artists, educators, and activists, their legacies are woven into the fabric of our society.

This month is about reflection, education, and action. It’s a reminder to honor those who paved the way, amplify Black voices, and commit to building a future of equity and inclusion.

1/28/2025 -  Federal Government

The federal government is changing rapidly, and not all of it is for the better. Policies are being pushed that threaten the most vulnerable among us, and backroom deals are being made that prioritize power over people. Let me be clear: I will always stand by what is ethically right, no matter the cost.

I’ve spent my career working with vulnerable populations, providing compassionate healthcare and advocating for those who have been overlooked, underestimated, and ignored. These are the communities that deserve a voice and a champion.

I will not stand by while thugs, bullies, and opportunists tear apart the systems meant to protect and serve ALL Americans. I’m ready to fight for what’s just, and I’m not afraid of taking on those who think they can intimidate me into silence.

It’s time to put integrity back into public service.

The days ahead will define who we are as a nation. In times of uncertainty and division, we must remember the strength of our unity. It’s easy to let divisive politics tear us apart, but we must rise above the noise.

Each of us brings something unique to the fabric of this country—our voices, our stories, and our dreams. Though our individual journeys may differ, together we stand united as Americans. We cannot let the forces of division define us. We must stand tall, speak out, and insist on a future that reflects our shared values of liberty, justice, and opportunity for all.

Virginia, you know what to do! Stand tall, speak loud, and show the world what unity and leadership look like. Together, let us lead with love and courage, reject hatred and fear, and affirm that what binds us is stronger than what separates us. Stand, Virginia—our time is now! VOTE!!!

1/17/2025 - Big News from VA House of Delegates

This week, lawmakers advanced three groundbreaking constitutional amendments to:

- Protect reproductive freedom: Ensuring every Virginian has the right to make personal healthcare decisions without interference.

- Restore voting rights for formerly incarcerated Virginians: Strengthening democracy by giving individuals a second chance to have their voices heard.

- Secure marriage equality: Safeguarding the fundamental right to marry the person you love, regardless of gender or orientation.

These bold moves are more than just progress; they represent a commitment to fairness, equality, and justice for all Virginians.

As your Delegate for the 75th District, I will bring that same passion and determination to Richmond. I’m committed to protecting your rights, expanding opportunities, and making sure every voice in our community is represented at the table.

A Call to Action: Fixing Failing Infrastructure in HD 75

The recent water crisis in the City of Richmond was more than an inconvenience—it was a devastating failure of leadership and infrastructure. For families like mine, it was personal. My mother-in-law’s surgery was canceled because the hospital couldn’t guarantee access to clean water during this critical time. This is not the type of care or reliability that Virginians deserve.

As a provider of services in a group home, I understand firsthand how essential utilities like water are to delivering adequate care. In circumstances like these, maintaining the safety and well-being of the individuals I serve becomes nearly impossible. Water is the backbone of sanitation, meal preparation, hydration, and health care services. A failure like this threatens not just daily routines but the dignity and safety of those most vulnerable in our communities.

But this crisis isn’t isolated to Richmond—it’s a warning for all of us. The same outdated infrastructure that failed Richmond is present in Hopewell, Chesterfield, and Prince George County. Our water systems and public utilities are hanging by a thread, unable to meet the demands of our growing population. What happened in Richmond could just as easily happen here.

This failure was not just an infrastructure problem—it was a political failure. For years, state leaders have neglected our communities’ needs, funneling resources elsewhere while we’re left to fend for ourselves. Our families and businesses deserve better.

I’m running for the House of Delegates to fight for HD 75 because I know what’s at stake. We need immediate investment to modernize our water systems, strengthen our infrastructure, and ensure our communities never face a crisis like this again. Whether it’s keeping our loved ones healthy, providing essential care, or maintaining public safety, infrastructure is not just a priority—it’s a necessity.

This isn’t just about fixing pipes and systems; it’s about ensuring that no surgery is canceled, no group home is left struggling, and no family is left vulnerable because of government neglect. Winter weather is upon us, bringing icy roads, snow, and extreme cold temperatures. Warming stations are opening across the region to ensure everyone has a safe place to stay warm. Let’s take steps to prepare ourselves, our homes, and our communities while respecting those working hard to keep us safe.

Prepare Your Home for Extreme Cold

1. Insulate Pipes

Wrap exposed pipes to prevent freezing. Let faucets drip to keep water flowing.

2. Seal Drafts

Block drafts with weather stripping or towels to conserve heat.

3. Check Your Heating System

Ensure your furnace is in working order. Stock up on wood or fuel if using alternative heat sources.

4. Stock Up on Essentials

Gather non-perishable food, water, medications, batteries, and flashlights. Keep devices charged and have backup power available.

5. Stay Safe During Power Outages

Bundle up, use extra blankets, and never bring outdoor grills or generators inside.

Driving Tips for Winter Weather

1. Stay Off the Roads When Possible

Limit travel to emergencies or essential needs.

2. Drive with Caution

Slow down and leave plenty of space between vehicles.

Be extra cautious on bridges and overpasses.

3. Prepare Your Vehicle

Snow plows and pretreatment trucks need room to operate safely. Avoid tailgating or trying to pass them.

The treated surfaces are safer behind them. Following too closely could result in damage to your vehicle or put you in a dangerous situation.

3. Be Patient

These crews are working tirelessly to make our roads safer for everyone. Respect their work and drive cautiously around them.

Warming stations are available across the region for those without heat. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please contact local shelters or resources.

This year is not just about resolutions—it’s about revolutionizing progress in our Commonwealth. Together, we will make history by electing bold, compassionate leaders ready to move Virginia forward.

In 2025, we will:

  • Elect Abigail Spanberger as our Governor, leading with vision and strength.

  • Celebrate Senator Ghazala Hashmi’s victory as Lieutenant Governor, bringing her unmatched leadership to the forefront.

  • Send Dustin Wade to the House of Delegates, where I will fight for equity, healthcare access, education, and the future we all deserve.

This is our year to make bold changes and ensure our government reflects the values and priorities of its people. With your support, we can make it happen.

12/20/2024 - Government Shutdown

As we face the very real threat of a government shutdown, it’s critical to pause and reflect on the immense toll this will have on the individuals and families who rely on the federal government to uphold its responsibilities. Federal employees, service members, and government-funded programs aren’t just bureaucratic entities; they are the lifeblood of our nation. They ensure our safety, our health, our education, and our ability to function as a society.

When the government stalls, these workers and the programs they support face uncertainty, and too often, financial hardship. From service members deployed abroad, putting their lives on the line, to the dedicated civil servants working at home, these are the people who keep the gears of our country turning. They deserve better. They deserve stability. They deserve the government they serve.

Yet, we stand at the brink of using these same workers as pawns in a political game. **No political party should ever have the ability to withhold critical funding for their own gain.** Using funding as a weapon, holding our government—and by extension, its people—hostage, should never be an option. It’s not just irresponsible, it’s reckless and wrong. These are real lives at stake. Families struggle to make ends meet when paychecks stop, veterans’ services go unfulfilled, and essential programs are left in limbo. For too long, our political leaders have played with fire, ignoring the human cost of their actions.

The message should be clear: **our government is not a political tool to be wielded for partisan advantage.** The American people, and those who work tirelessly to support them, deserve a government that acts with integrity—one that takes responsibility, one that works together for the good of all, and one that does not exploit its power for political leverage. It's time to reject the weaponization of funds and demand accountability from those elected to lead us.

We cannot allow this to become the new normal. Our country, its workers, and the very idea of a functioning government are worth fighting for. **No party, no leader, and no individual should hold the wellbeing of the people hostage for political gain.** Stand up, speak out, and make it known—using people as pawns in political battles is not acceptable, and we won’t stand for it any longer.

12/18/2024 - Nurses Can Lead

Nursing is more than a career; it is a calling rooted in compassion, trust, and service. Nurses stand beside people in their most vulnerable moments—when they are scared, uncertain, and in need of hope. We are the hands that comfort, the advocates who fight, and the voices that ensure no one is left unheard.

In the darkest of times, we have seen the true sanctity of this profession. During the pandemic, nurses answered the call—not for applause or recognition, but because it is who we are. Leadership isn’t always loud or flashy; sometimes, it’s quiet strength, steadfast presence, and tireless dedication to others.

Nurses can lead. In fact, we already do. Whether at the bedside, in the community, or advocating for change, nurses bring a unique perspective to leadership. We know the struggles people face every day because we are there, walking beside them. We understand that care is not just physical—it’s emotional, mental, and social.

Now more than ever, we need leaders who put people first. Leaders who don’t just talk about change but deliver it. Nurses are those leaders. We are trained to listen, to act, and to lead with integrity, empathy, and purpose.

12/11/2024 - School Board Vote

Today, I want to address an important issue: the recent school board vote on a policy that directly impacts LGBTQIA+ students. As a community, we must stand firm in ensuring that every student feels welcomed, included, and valued in our public school systems.

As leaders, we must stand firm in our core values: inclusion, support, and hope—among many others. These values remind us of our responsibility to create environments where all students feel safe and have the opportunity to succeed. Compromising these principles is not an option when the well-being of our youth is at stake.

Our primary goal should be providing young people with the tools they need to thrive, both academically and personally. Schools should be places of learning, growth, and safety—not political battlegrounds.

Our youth already face enough challenges in today’s world. Let’s not add to their burden with divisive agendas. Instead, let’s focus on creating spaces where every child can build a future filled with opportunity and hope. As Maya Angelou so eloquently said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

We owe it to our students to uphold these core values, prioritize their well-being, and remain steadfast in our commitment to their success. It’s time to come together as a community to protect and support them.

For far too long, politics has been dominated by individuals who’ve spent their entire careers in government, making decisions about the lives of everyday citizens without truly understanding what it’s like to live, work, and struggle like the rest of us.

We need leaders who share the lived experiences of the majority of tax-paying citizens—people who work hard to make ends meet, who know the value of a dollar because they’ve had to stretch one, and who’ve felt the weight of rising costs, healthcare challenges, and a broken system that caters to the elite.

Electing leaders who’ve lived like us, worked like us, and understand the challenges we face ensures that our government reflects the people it serves. Real change comes when we elect individuals who aren’t just looking for another title or position but are genuinely invested in creating a future where everyone can thrive—not just the well-connected few.

As a licensed nurse and licensed mental health professional, I am dedicated to upgrading our outdated and overlooked mental health system. District 19 holds two of the three largest cities with some of the highest overdose rates statistically—this is unacceptable. Our communities deserve better.

Right now, both cities are forced to share an overstretched mental health community services board, leaving families and individuals without the resources they need. This crisis demands immediate action. We must invest in separate, fully funded systems tailored to each city's unique challenges, expand access to mental health professionals, and prioritize treatment and prevention strategies.

I’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact of this broken system. As your representative, I will bring my experience in healthcare to fight for funding, reform, and innovation to address the mental health crisis head-on. It’s time to prioritize the well-being of every resident in District 19 and create a system that truly serves the people.

A Message of Hope and Humanity

In The Great Dictator, Charlie Chaplin delivered a speech that still resonates today:

"I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone—if possible—Jew, Gentile—black man—white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness—not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world, there is room for everyone, and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone."

These words remind us that leadership should be about service, not power. This is the foundation of my campaign for the Virginia House of Delegates.

I believe in a Virginia for all of us—one that uplifts the most vulnerable, ensures healthcare access, expands mental health services, and protects the freedoms of every citizen.

Like Chaplin said, “The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.” I’m running to ensure we find that way again—by advocating for policies that protect working families, create economic opportunities, and make sure no one is left behind.

Together, we can build a future driven by compassion, equity, and justice. Because at the end of the day, love is all there is.

Silence is Complicity

Injustice thrives when good people stay silent. Those who allow oppression, discrimination, and harm to continue without speaking up are just as guilty as those who commit the acts themselves.

Dr. King reminded us that "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." It is not enough to disagree in private—we must stand up, speak out, and take action. Staying on the sidelines, refusing to get involved, or looking the other way makes you complicit in the suffering of others.

If you see injustice and say nothing, you are choosing the side of the oppressor. But if you raise your voice, take a stand, and push for change, you become part of the solution. The world does not change on its own—it changes when we refuse to accept silence as an option.

I will not stand by. I will fight for what is right. Will you?

The City of Richmond has long been a beacon of inclusivity, and its recent statement of solidarity with LGBTQ+ organizations is a powerful stand against the challenges we continue to face in today’s political climate. This commitment is more than just words—it is a reminder that Richmond will remain a welcoming and inclusive space, no matter what happens at other levels of government.

As a nurse, mental health professional, and advocate, I have spent my career fighting for the rights of the most vulnerable. A phrase steeped in history, a warning of betrayal, political maneuvering, and backstabbing in the pursuit of power. As we approach March 15th, we’re reminded that history has a way of repeating itself—especially in politics.

Just like Julius Caesar was taken down not by his enemies, but by those closest to him, we see the same forces at play today. Backroom deals, hand-picked candidates, and the silencing of voices that challenge the status quo—it’s all part of the same old script. The difference? This time, we see it happening in real-time, and we refuse to let it go unchecked.

I am running for office because the people deserve real representation, not the illusion of choice. I will not be pushed aside by party insiders trying to dictate the outcome before voters even have their say. I will not bow to threats, intimidation, or pressure to conform.

Honoring Women's History Month: A Legacy of Strength and Progress

March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor the trailblazers, pioneers, and everyday heroes who have shaped our nation. From the earliest days of our history, women have played an essential role in building America—yet too often, their contributions have gone unrecognized.

What began as a grassroots effort to celebrate women’s achievements through local sponsored essay contests and educational programs grew into a national movement. By 1987, thanks to the tireless advocacy of the National Women’s History Alliance, Congress declared March as Women’s History Month in perpetuity. Each year, a Presidential Proclamation is issued to acknowledge the remarkable impact of American women.

As President Jimmy Carter said in his 1980 proclamation:

"The achievements, leadership, courage, strength, and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well."

We must continue this work—not just in celebration but in action. Women’s rights are human rights, and ensuring equal pay, reproductive freedom, workplace protections, and healthcare access is essential to building a stronger, more just future.

This month, let’s uplift the voices of the women who paved the way—Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul, and so many more—and continue their fight for equality.

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month—a time to recognize, uplift, and advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities. But awareness is just the beginning—we must take action to ensure that every person, regardless of ability, has access to the care, opportunities, and dignity they deserve.

Each of us is unique, with different strengths, challenges, and perspectives. People with developmental disabilities are not defined by their diagnosis—they are artists, workers, friends, family members, and vital members of our communities. They deserve more than just inclusion; they deserve equity, respect, and the ability to thrive.

My life’s work has been dedicated to serving and advocating for our most vulnerable populations. As a nurse, mental health professional, and caregiver, I have seen firsthand the resilience, strength, and potential of individuals with developmental disabilities. I’ve also witnessed the barriers they face—lack of resources, discrimination, and systemic failures that limit their independence. We must do better.

This month and every month, I remain committed to fighting for policies that expand access to quality care, protect disability rights, and ensure full community inclusion. Let’s move beyond just awareness—let’s work together to create a world where every person, regardless of ability, can live with dignity, independence, and opportunity.

2/25/2025 -  Marriage Equality

Today, my marriage, my love, and my family are under direct attack. Republican Rep. Josh Schriver has announced plans to introduce a resolution urging the courts to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges—the 2015 ruling that granted same-sex couples the right to marry. He argues that marriage equality is “at odds with the sanctity of marriage, the Michigan Constitution, and the principles upon which the country was established.”

 

This isn’t just happening in Michigan. If Obergefell is overturned, Virginia’s outdated constitutional ban on same-sex marriage could be reinstated, putting my marriage—and thousands of others—at risk. It would strip away the legal protections my husband and I have as a married couple, from medical decision-making to survivor benefits, and it would send a clear message that LGBTQ+ people are second-class citizens.

 

But I am not a second-class citizen. I am a free citizen of this Commonwealth, just like any other, and I have the right to be treated equally under the law. My marriage is not up for debate. My love is not a political game.

 

This is exactly why I’m running for office—because I refuse to let extremists take away the rights we fought so hard to win. I refuse to let Virginia be dragged backward by those who think they can erase our families, our love, and our futures.

 

They came for reproductive rights, and now they’re coming for marriage equality. What will they take next? We must fight back. We must take a stand. And we must ensure that Virginia remains a place where love—not hate—wins.

The company we keep shapes our energy, our mindset, and ultimately, our path in life. It’s essential to surround ourselves with people who resonate with our values—those who uplift, inspire, and walk in alignment with the principles we hold dear.

Integrity, kindness, compassion, and purpose should not be compromised for convenience or comfort. When we allow individuals into our lives who do not honor these values, we risk losing sight of our own truth. But when we build a circle of like-minded souls, we cultivate a space where growth, support, and genuine connection thrive.

Take a moment to reflect: Do the people around you align with your mission? Do they inspire you to be better? Do they challenge you in ways that strengthen your purpose? If not, it may be time to realign, set boundaries, and make room for those who truly understand the weight of your heart and the depth of your vision.

As a nurse, my commitment is to caring for all people—without exception. Regardless of beliefs, gender identity, religious background, or past actions, every individual deserves basic human rights and compassionate care. That’s the oath I took, and I stand by it. My duty is to serve humanity, and I will always take care of all people, no matter what.

A Woman’s Right to Contraceptives is a Fundamental Right

Access to contraception is not a privilege—it is a basic healthcare right. Every woman deserves the freedom to make decisions about her reproductive health without barriers, stigma, or political interference.

Contraceptives empower women to plan their futures, protect their health, and make choices that are best for their lives and families. Restricting access doesn’t just limit options—it threatens autonomy, economic stability, and overall well-being.

No one should have control over a woman’s personal healthcare choices but her. Birth control is healthcare. Reproductive freedom is a right. And we will always fight to protect it.

1/28/2025 - Extreme Federal Government

The federal government is becoming more extreme by the day, pushing policies that threaten our communities, our rights, and our future. We cannot afford to sit back while the voices of everyday Virginians are drowned out by political elites who are out of touch with the struggles we face.

I was born in Hopewell, Virginia. I know firsthand the challenges our working families endure because I’ve lived them. I’ve spent my career fighting for vulnerable populations, providing healthcare, and advocating for real change—not just talking about it. Now, I need your help to take that fight to the state level.

Virginia must elect leaders who represent the majority of its citizens—not just the wealthy, not just the political insiders, but the people who wake up every day working hard to build a better future. His unwavering commitment to nonviolence and unity reminds us that real change starts with each of us standing together for what is right.

1/13/2025 - Voice of the People

As a moderate candidate, I am committed to bridging the gap between the far extremes of our political spectrum and serving as a true representative of the people. My roots run deep in resilience and perseverance. I grew up in a single-wide trailer, where my momma sold crafts on the hood of her car outside the Route 1 Pizza Hut to make ends meet. I rollerbladed in what is now Lowe’s plumbing department, a testament to humble beginnings and a changing world.

I am the voice of the people. We must stand together and stand strong—just as my teenage mother did in a rural county, raising a child with an intellectual disability at a time when teen pregnancy and having a child with special needs were seen as a social disgrace.

In 2019, I walked through the valley of the deepest depths, warding off the flames of hell as I stood strong to ensure the safety of us all. Those challenges tested me, refined me, and strengthened my resolve to fight for what is right and to advocate for the progress we deserve.

As outlined in so many great art forms, “The Clouds” serve as a foundation for our movement. True progress is found by walking the middle path—embracing balance, understanding, and unity to build a future that works for everyone.

The last 18 years of my life have been the most fulfilling. The life experiences I’ve had—both the challenges and the triumphs—have paved the way and prepared me for the tough times ahead. I am Dustin Wade, and I have faced many of the same struggles and disparities that you, too, have endured.

They have the ability to craft policies that ensure families don’t have to choose between paying for medication or putting food on the table, that workers are paid what they’re worth, and that every child has access to the education and support they need to succeed.

But they can’t do it alone. It’s up to us to demand that those in power prioritize people over profits, fairness over privilege, and progress over partisanship. We must elect leaders who understand that the measure of a community isn’t in its wealth but in its willingness to lift up every member, especially the most vulnerable.

Change doesn’t come easy, but it’s always worth it. It requires courage, persistence, and faith in the collective power of humanity. Let’s remember: we are not just voters or constituents—we are change-makers. We have the power to inspire action, hold leaders accountable, and ensure the laws reflect the values we believe in.

As we step into 2025, we’re filled with hope, determination, and excitement for what lies ahead. This year marks a new chapter for House District 75, and together, we’re ready to make it one to remember.

I’m thrilled to share that we’re starting the year strong with the addition of our campaign manager, bringing leadership and passion to our mission. As part of our New Year message, I want to remind you that this campaign isn’t just about one person—it’s about all of us standing together, working toward a brighter, more inclusive future.

Our priorities for 2025 remain clear:

Today, we honor the extraordinary life and legacy of President Jimmy Carter, who has passed away at the remarkable age of 100. From his humble beginnings as a peanut farmer in Plains, Georgia, to his tenure as the 39th President of the United States, President Carter exemplified a life dedicated to service, progress, and humanity.

During his presidency, Carter championed human rights, environmental conservation, and peace efforts. His leadership in brokering the Camp David Accords remains one of the most significant diplomatic achievements in U.S. history, paving the way for peace in the Middle East. His commitment to energy reform and environmental stewardship set the stage for critical conversations about sustainability that continue to shape our future.

Perhaps even more impactful was his post-presidency work. Through the Carter Center, he became a global symbol of hope and action, eradicating diseases like Guinea worm, promoting democracy, and monitoring elections worldwide. Too often, we see familiar faces and voices promising quick fixes while offering only divisive rhetoric—leaders who prioritize self-interest over the needs of the people they serve. Real leadership demands empathy, the courage to make difficult choices that benefit everyone, and the resilience to stay the course, even when the path is hard.

I challenge the citizens of the 75th District to give their faith to a proven beacon of hope—Dustin Wade, the nurse who has been caring for our community for over 15 years. During the darkest of times—the pandemic—when our communities were gripped by fear and uncertainty, nurses answered the call. Dustin Wade stood on the frontlines as the face of leadership, providing care, comfort, and hope when it was needed most. His actions remind us that leadership is about showing up when others cannot, about putting others before oneself, and about ensuring that no one is left behind.

We cannot afford to be swayed by empty promises or hollow familiarity. This experience has deepened my appreciation for the resilience and innovation of entrepreneurs, and it fuels my passion for advocating on their behalf.

​House District 75 is ready for a new chapter, and I’m honored to be running to flip this seat and bring a fresh voice to Richmond. This race isn’t just about electing a new representative—it’s about fulfilling a vision that has been years in the making.

For far too long, the people of HD 75 have been waiting for leadership that truly represents their needs and values. Our district has been underestimated and overlooked, but the groundwork for change has already been laid. Community advocates, grassroots organizers, and everyday citizens have worked tirelessly to create momentum for progress. I am running to build on that work and deliver real results for our families.

When Times Were Dark, Nurses Answered the Call.

When the pandemic swept across our nation, it brought fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak. Communities were gripped by the unknown, and many didn’t know where to turn. But one thing was certain—nurses showed up.

When others hesitated, nurses answered the call. We stood on the front lines, shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues, hand in hand with our patients, often without enough resources, battling a virus we didn’t fully understand. We worked long hours, sometimes holding the hands of patients who had no family by their side. We comforted the grieving, advocated for those in need, and carried the weight of it all, even when it felt overwhelming.

In those dark and unsure times, nurses didn’t back down. We showed up for our communities because that’s what we do. We lead with compassion, strength, and resilience—even when it feels like the world is falling apart.

Nurses bring a unique sense of power and reliance. We are problem solvers who don’t shy away from tough decisions. We bring calm to chaos, strength to uncertainty, and hope to despair. Nurses don’t just answer the call—we lead. We know how to build trust, take action under pressure, and fight for what’s right.

Nurses can lead too, and as your delegate for HD 75, I’ll bring that same spirit of leadership to Richmond. Shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand, we will progress together, creating a future where healthcare is accessible, families are supported, and our communities are stronger than ever.
